Study In Rhythmic Sculpture

Using such unlikely materials as styrofoam, spackle and acrylic paint, you will create an exciting three-dimensional work of art. Your instructor Bill Hicks, national board certified art teacher, will show you the way in this fun-filled, fast-paced class. Bring your curiosity, creativity and be ready to explore new “dimensions.”

Brilliant Paper Batik Made Easy
Bill Hicks’ “Batik Painting” is similar to traditional Batik on cloth but easier and yields striking results. You will “paint” the paper with brilliant colors using dyes much as you would paint with watercolors. The results are stunning with a stained glass appearance. Have a simple design idea in your head when you arrive and watch that idea become a wonderful work of art.

Illustration for Adults & Teens
Explore the basics of black & white illustration. This class with artist Jay Potts, Savannah College of Art and Design alumnus, will focus on the human form. While Jay’s drawing skills with pencil and ink are amazing, his low-pressure style of instruction is supportive and insightful. All you need to bring to the first class is your desire to keep drawing.

Boost your Creativity! Let yourself Go Crazy! Register for one of Marta Herman's workshops or all of them! How to get your ideas off the ground - How to make it work - Making interesting surfaces - Using natural elements to your advantage. Most materials will be provided. You may be contacted before each class about materials…nothing special will be required. Collect your favorite things and bring them or come empty handed and we will provide materials. You will go home from each workshop with a finished piece of "ART".

Face Down Your Fears About FACES! THE PORTRAIT CHALLENGE! Marta M. T. Hermancontinues the Open Concept of Art Classeswith several months of portrait drawing and painting. You will find that “special something” that is the character of the person. Mothers, fathers and grandparents: create a portrait of your grandchildren. Bring photographs to class (more than just one) showing different angles of the face and body too. We will learn to choose the right photo and use it for reference. All you need for the first class is a drawing tablet and pencil - for beginning and experienced artists.

Calligraphy: Valentines, Scrapbook, Etc.
Personalize your Valentines, wedding announcements, notes, birthday and other seasonal cards. Margo Cook will teach you the art of Calligraphy. Paper provided, but students must bring their own calligraphy pens or felt markers (chisel tip).

The Eye of the Photographer
Designed to improve your photos through the study of composition, Dan Riddick’s course investigates the artistic elements of photography. The course includes weekly assignments where students return with printed photographs. One class is devoted to digital photographic enhancement. Open to both digital and film photographers. Class size limited! "Not a course in how your particular camera operates - working knowledge of your camera is required."

Creating in Clay With Anne - Sessions 1 & 2
This is a multi-level class for both Beginners and Experienced students. Those who have taken a beginning class with Anne should consider taking Wheel Throwing. Beginners learn the basics of hand building, glazing and firing decorative pottery in a fun and productive atmosphere, alongside experienced hand builders and wheel throwing students. Taught by potter Anne Schultz. Clay must be purchased separately.

Beginning Wheel Throwing With Anne -
Sessions 1 & 2

Potter Anne Schultz teaches wheel throwing in the classical tradition beginning with cylinders.  Students will experience throwing, trimming, glazing and firing in a small class with encouraging, hands-on instruction.  Clay must be purchased separately.  Prerequisite: Beginning level of Creating in Clay.

Clay Technique With Tim - Sessions 1 & 2
During this eight evening course with potter Tim Graham, students learn hand building, wheel-throwing and firing & glazing technique. The eighth class will be a trip to Tim’s studio and kiln. The limited class size permits students to receive individualized instruction no matter what their skill level. Clay must be purchased separately.
