About the
CCKC
The Concert Choir of Kershaw County is one of many educational programs
of the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County. In its 20 year history, the
CCKC has endeavored to serve the community and especially its children
by offering music instruction in vocal technique, participation in great
art and folk music and frequent performance opportunities. To this end
it has collaborated with other musical organizations, among them: the
Greater Columbia Childrens Choir, the Cumberland Childrens
Chorus, the Camden Womens Chorale, Camden Community Concert Band,
South Carolina Philharmonic, Bryan Symphony Orchestra (Cookeville, TN)
and Columbia Music Festival Associations Festival Orchestra in Carolina
Ballets production of Tchaikovskys "The Nutcracker."

In 1998
the choir participated in the world premier of "I Dream of Peace,
Images of War" by the Children of the former Yugoslavia, a seven-movement
choral and orchestral work by Robert Jager. This performance took place
in Charleston, SC for the American Choral Directors Association Southern
Division Convention.
In 1999 the CCKC completed a concert tour to New York City, performing
at the United Nations and at the Patchoque Congregational Church on Long
Island. In the spring of 2000, the group released a compact disc. The
Choir has sung for the prestigious Verner Awards, for the Governors
Carolighting, the Governors Prayer Breakfast and the Inaugural Prayer
Service for Governor Jim Hodges.
In addition to its annual Christmas and Spring Concerts,"The Nutcracker,"
and performing for Governor Hodges"First Steps to School
Readiness Celebration Dinner," the 2000-01 season included singing
on the "Music on the Mount" concert series in Columbia, a concert
tour to New Orleans and two performances with Charles Wadsworth at the
FAC.
Singing Andrew Carters "Bless the Lord" with Greater Columbia
Childrens Choir and Orchestra at First Presbyterian Church in Columbia,
and singing "Kids Stuff" with the Sandlapper Singers highlighted
the 2001-02 season. This year, in addition to concerts at the FAC, the
choir sang with the SC Philharmonic and for "The Nutcracker"
in Columbia.
Happily, the CCKC has now expanded to include the Chamber Choir of high
school and adult singers, offering opportunities to continue participation
in singing significant music and sharing it with the community.
