Columbia, SC artist, Laura Spong, who is 84, is among South Carolina's most prominent non-objective painters. In the past few years, Spong has further increased her reputation with several solo exhibits, including a retrospective at the University of South Carolina's McMaster Gallery. In addition to the S.C. State Art Collection, Spong's work was recently purchased by the Greenville County Museum of Art and the S.C. State Museum. Three of her paintings are also in the Contemporary Carolina Collection, which was established in 2008 at the Medical University of South Carolina's Ashley River Tower in Charleston. We are honored to be able to bring Ms. Spong's work to the Bassett Gallery.
Spongs work is currently on exhibit at several galleries in Columbia, SC including if ART in the Vista. if ART Gallery is located at 1223 Lincoln St., Columbia, S.C. 29201 and is open Monday through Friday, 11 am to 7 pm. Saturday from
11am to 5pm.
Join us on Thursday, December 9 at 5:30 and meet the artist! Laura Spong will be on-hand to discuss her work. This special "Gallery Talk" will preceed the December 9 Charles Wadsworth & Friends concert which begins at 7 p.m. Light hors d'ouevres and a cash bar will be available.
The Bassett Gallery is open Monday-Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5:00 pm and Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Open weekends by appointment only. Admission to the Bassett Gallery is free.
