Lee's paintings are primarily in the style of "chromatic impressionism" introduced by such composers as Debussey and Grieg, and widely eclectic musical influences -- from the sounds of the Southern Blues and Jazz to the more modern Christian music of Third Day and Sonic Flood --propel his brushstrokes on the canvas. From the swaying of the Carolina Palmettos to the undulating wake of a shrimp boat to the vibrations of the cello, Lee’s work is imbued with a feeling of fluidity and motion.

Robert Urban
A non-traditional landscape painter, Urban’s work reflects the ongoing struggle to coexist between nature and humankind.

Bassett Gallery

The title of Urban's exhibit, Hidden Treasures, is a reference to the artist's interest in scenic natural settings that are often under appreciated by the public at large. Several of the artworks in the show directly depict and reference Goodale State Park in Kershaw County, a park the artist visited for the first time last summer. . The show's title also refers to Urban's artworks themselves; they build up over time through many thin layers of acrylic paint. Words, phrases, and objects are often partially obscured from view, thereby becoming "hidden".

In his paintings, Urban will rub, scrape and sand away the surface to reveal layers underneath. "By creating an image and then destroying all or part of it, my art mimics what happens in our natural environment, either directly or indirectly through human interaction."
